Cooking

As part being a healthy school, we are delighted to be able to offer our children a dedicated cookery room. It is fully furnished with induction hobs, ovens, fridges and freezers, blenders and preparation equipment, along with a wealth of cupboard storage for ingredients.

Using these facilities and classroom lessons, children are taught how to prepare ingredients and apply the principles of healthy eating to cook a variety of nutritious meals.

Learning how to cook is a crucial life skill that enables children to feed themselves and others now and in their later life. It is also a great chance for practical application of those maths and literacy skills – from weights and measures to designing a masterchef menu for a panel of hungry judges!

From Nursery to year 6, children are taught about:

  • the basic principles of a healthy and varied diet
  • where food comes from (how food is grown, reared, caught and processed)
  • a range of cooking techniques
  • seasonality

We are always happy to receive some helping hands when cooking - if you have a particular passion for cooking and would be interested in volunteering, we would love to hear from you!
