SMSC & British Values

Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Development - SMSC

SMSC is a thread that runs through the ethos and day to day running of Earlswood and is reflected through our SMILE expectations:

S - self control

M - manners

I - independence

L - listen and respect

E - encourage others

We follow the Jigsaw PSHE Scheme of work which brings together Personal, Social, Health and Emotional education, emotional literacy, socials skills and spiritual development. SMSC development opportunities are mapped throughout the scheme of work. All of these pieces of learning are brought together to form a cohesive picture, helping children to know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people in the world.

The Federation of Earlswood Schools recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. Child protection forms part of the school’s safeguarding responsibilities.
