Literacy: This week we will be designing and labelling our own hover boards based on a video clip.

 

Maths: This week we will be continuing consolidation of the four operations through dice and counter games. 

 

PBL: This week we will be creating rocket themed art. 

 

The children will be bringing home all belongings and books over the last two days so may need a strong plastic bag to hold books.

Literacy: This week we will be focusing on poetry. We will be learning and performing space themed poems.

 

Reading: This week we will be focusing on answering retrieval and interpretation questions based on our story.

 

Maths: This week we will be consolidating our knowledge of the 4 operations (+, -, ÷, x).

 

PBL: This week we will be looking at the first moon landing and arguments for whether it was real or fake.

Literacy: This week we will be focusing on non-fiction work based on our Space topic. We will be researching about planets and creating a description.

 

Reading: This week we will be focusing on answering retrieval and interpretation questions based on our story.

 

Maths: This week we will be consolidating our knowledge of time. We will be focusing on reading and interpreting timetables.   

 

PBL: This week we will be looking at night and day. We will also be looking at the first moon landing and Neil Armstrong.

Literacy: This week we will be refreshing over the grammar skills we have learnt this term through various activities. We will then be writing our final suspense stories using speech effectively.

 

Reading: This week we will be focusing on characters thoughts and feelings. We will be completing activities such as hot seating to explore these.

 

Maths: This week we will be focusing on co-ordinates and symmetry. We will be translating and reflecting shapes.

 

PBL: This week we will be looking at how the Earth, Sun and Moon are related and the sizes of the planets in the Solar System.

Literacy: This week we will be using our ‘Alien Landing’ text to write our own suspense stories using speech effectively. 

 

Reading: This week we will be focusing on answering questions where we will have to find and copy information accurately from the story. 

 

Maths: This week we will be focusing on solving real life multi-step problems using all four operations and decimal numbers. 

 

PBL: This week we will be focusing on what causes day and night and different phases of the moon.

Week Beginning 17.6.19

 

Literacy: This week we will be continuing to learn our text 'Alien Landing'. We will also be focusing on using speech effectively within our writing.

 

Reading: This week we will be focusing on interpretation of characters thoughts and feelings within our story.

 

Maths: This week we will be focusing on decimal sequences and multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100 and 1000.

 

PBL: This week we will be focusing on the location of planets in the solar system and making our own mnemonic to help us remember the planets and the order of them from the sun.

 

Reminders: There will be Year 5 & 6 girls football trials held this Wednesday (19th) at lunchtime. Please make sure your child has their PE kit if they would like to take part.

 

District Athletics - Over the next couple of weeks during their PE lessons, children will be trialling to be selected for the District Athletics Tournament on the 3rd of July.

Maths: This week we will be focusing on decimals. We will learning how to add and subtract decimals within 1.

 

PBL: This week we will be introducing our new topic 'Space'. We will be visiting Herstmonceux Space Observatory to begin our topic.

Week Beginning 20.5.19

 

Literacy: This week we will be beginning to look at Viking poetry. We will be writing and performing our own poems.

 

Reading: This week we will be finishing our book and writing a review based on our likes, dislikes and things we have learnt.

 

Maths: This week we will be focusing on imperial units of measure and capacity. We will converting between different units of measurement.

 

PBL: This week we will be learning about the Battle of Hastings and how it was recorded on the Bayeux Tapestry.

Juniors Sports Day Friday 24th May 2019

 

All parents and carers please join us for a fun filled sports day!

 

Location: Earlswood Junior School Field

 

Time: 12.35-14.45

 

There will be a picnic lunch starting at 11.40 to 12.20 beforehand if you wish to join your child for lunch.

The entrance for parents and carers will be via the top main entrance for the junior site. You will be asked to sign in when you arrive at the gate and if you are unsure there will be members of staff to help direct you to the activity your child will be starting on first. Please be patient, we will aim to sign you in as quickly as possible.

 

As much enthusiasm and encouragement not only for your child but the whole colour team would be fantastic!

Literacy: This week we will be planning and writing our final action story for our hot task using the skills we have learnt over the last few weeks.

 

Reading: This week we will be focusing on improving our comprehension skills through answering  questions where we will need to give evidence for points made.

 

Maths: This week we will be focusing on measure. We will be converting units of time and calculating volume.

 

PBL: This week we will be looking at religion during the Viking time and beginning to learn about the Battle of Hastings.

Literacy: This week we will be our innovate week. We will be using our model text to write our own action stories based on the story of Beowulf.

 

Reading: This week we will be continuing to read our book with fluency and expression. We will also be focusing on comprehension questions where we will need to give evidence for points made.

 

Maths: This week we will be focusing on percentages. We will be finding percentages of amounts and converting between decimals, fractions and percentages.

 

PBL: This week we will be looking at the law and justice system during the Viking time and how the Viking children lived.

Reading: Our new story this half term is ‘The Other Wide of Truth’ by Beverley Naidoo. This week we will be making predictions about the story and reading the first few chapters. 

 

Maths: This week we will be focusing on decimals. We will be reading, writing and ordering numbers with up three decimal places.

 

PBL: Our new topic for the half term is ‘Vikings’. This week we will be introducing our topic by looking at a timeline of the Vikings and where they raided and settled.

Literacy: This week we will be researching for and writing a discussion text based on deforestation for our innovate week.

 

Reading: This week we will be finishing our story and focusing on reading with fluency and expression.

 

Maths: This week we will be continuing to look at angles. We will be focusing on drawing angles accurately and finding a missing angle on a straight line or point.

 

PBL: This week we will be creating our own rainforest art, inspired by Henri Rousseau.

Reading: This week we will continuing to read our story and focusing on interpreting information by finding evidence form the text.

 

Maths: This week we will be looking at angles. We will be recapping over different types of angles and looking at how to measure them accurately.

Literacy: This week will be completing our independent hot task about a tale of fear. We will also be starting to look at discussion texts and how they are written.

 

Reading: This week we will focusing on using fluency and expression to read our book.

 

Maths: This week we will be looking at finding fractions of amounts and comparing these with multiplication of fractions by a whole number.

 

PBL:  This week we will be learning about the paintings of Henri Rousseau to inspire our own rainforest artwork.

Literacy: This week will be our innovate week where we will write our own tales of fear based on our text 'The Nightmare Man'

Maths: This week we will be continuing to multiplying fractions by whole numbers.

 

PBL:  This week we will be learning about the animals in the rainforest and the effects of deforestation.

Week Beginning 4.3.19

 

Literacy: This week we will be continuing to develop suspense writing skills using work from other authors to help create our own writing.

 

Reading: This week we will be reading the next few chapters of our story and exploring the characters through hot seating and comprehension.

 

Maths: This week we will be focusing on Fractions. We will be multiplying fractions by each other and by whole numbers.

 

PBL:  This week we will be learning about the different animals in the rainforest and the layers of the rainforest that they live in.

 

Reminders:

  • There will be a hockey trial during lunchtime at 1:15pm on Monday 4th March. Any children who want to attend need to eat lunch first.

 

World Book Day: We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7th March 2019.

Literacy: This week we will be beginning to develop suspense writing skills using our new text ‘The Nightmare Man’.

 

Reading: Our new story this half term is ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell. This week we will be reading the first few chapters and exploring the characters and setting of the story.

PBL: Our new topic for the half term is ‘Rainforests’. This week we will be introducing our topic with our visit from the Urban Farm.

Reading: This week we will be finishing off our story and analysing characters thoughts and feelings. 

 

Maths: This week we will be focusing on area. We will be calculating and comparing the area of rectangles and estimating the area of irregular shapes.

 

PBL: This week we will be continuing to make our own model theme parks in groups including a leaflet, map and model Ferris wheel, ready for the showcase!

Week Beginning 4.2.19

 

Literacy: This week we will be starting our innovate week where we will be writing our own biographies about Mo Farah. 

 

Reading: This week we will be reading the next chapters of the story and making assumptions based on evidence from the text. 

 

Maths: This week we will be focusing on area and perimeter. We will be working out the perimeter of composite shapes. 

 

PBL: This week we will be continuing to make our own model theme parks in groups.

Literacy: This week we will be starting our non-fiction unit of work. We will be focusing on biographies and the features used to write them. 

 

Reading: This week we will be focusing on inference questions and finding clues in the text to support answers.

 

Maths: This week we will be converting units of measure including weight, capacity and length (for example, centimetres and metres).

Maths: This week we will be using rounding to estimate answers and we will also be solving multi-step word problems.

 

This week is Science week! Each afternoon, we will be carrying out different investigations on reversible and irreversible changes.

Reading: The week after half term, we will be looking at a non-fiction book 'The Measly Middle Ages', as an introduction to our topic.

 

Maths: The week after half term, we will be learning about addition & subtraction and different methods to solve problems.

 

Project: The week after half term, we will be starting our new topic Peasants, Princes and Pestilence. We will be looking at The Black Death and how it spread.

Maths: This week we will be learning about decimals and converting fractions into decimals.

 

Project: This week we will be preparing for our Great British Tea Party. We will make our food and decorations.

 

Juniors - Book Bingo Reading Challenge

  1. Your child will receive a bingo card in their Reading Record book
  2. They will need to read a book relating to each box on the card - please sign it each time they complete a book
  3. When the card has been completed they will receive a golden ticket and can collect a new bingo card
  4. The golden tickets will be placed into a box ready for the prize draw at the end of the school year.
  5. The winning 2 children from each year group, will be taken as a group to a matinee performance of the musical Matilda!

Project: This week we will be creating a quiz about Great Britain using Scratch and creating a Tudor family tree.

Maths: This week we will be learning about negative numbers and counting through zero to solve problems.

 

Project: This week we will be investigating famous British artists, including the work of William Morris.

PE will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays, please make sure your child has their full kit.

We will be doing Woodlands on a Tuesday, please make sure your child has wellies at all times.
