Week Beginning 17.12.18

 

Literacy: This week we will be planning and writing our own independent explanation texts.

 

Reading: This week we will be focusing on a range of short stories. We will be looking at characters thoughts and feelings.

 

Maths: This week we will be looking multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, 1000.

 

PBL: This week we will be continuing to make and paint our own castles with a moving part, in groups.

Reminders

We are after any spare cardboard, big cardboard boxes and kitchen roll tubes, please could you send in anything you have spare.

 

Literacy: This week we will be starting our Innovate Week where we will be writing our own explanation texts.

 

Reading: This week we will be finishing our story and finding out if our predictions of the thief were correct!

 

Maths: This week we will be learning about 3D shapes and we will be looking at their nets.

 

PBL: This week we will be starting to make our own castles with a moving part, in groups.

Please could you send in any medium-sized jars without labels or lids that you have spare.

Reading: This week we will be continuing to read our story and focusing on reading with fluency and expression.

 

Maths: This week we will be recapping place value and the 4 operations (multiplication, division, addition, subtraction).

Literacy: This week we will be starting to explore non-fiction. We will be learning how to write an explanation text. 

 

Reading: This week we will be looking at the action in our story and focusing on suspects and why they might have stolen the chalice.

 

Maths: This week we will be looked at what square and cube numbers are and how we find them. We will also be looking at what prime numbers are.

 

PBL: This week we will be designing and starting to make our own castles with a moving part, in groups.

Literacy: This week we will be continuing our Innovate Week where we will be writing our own stories based on 'The Caravan', using the skills we have learnt.

 

Reading: This week we will be analysing the characters in the story and their motives for stealing the golden chalice.

 

Maths: This week we will be learning how to use the bus stop method to solve division problems. We will also be learning about factors and multiples.

 

PBL: This week we will be designing and creating our own coat of arms reflecting our personalities.

Literacy: This week we will be starting our Innovate Week where we will be writing our own stories based on 'The Caravan', using the skills we have learnt.

 

Reading: This week we will be continuing to read 'The Curse of Castle Cranston'. We will be answering questions about the story and looking at settings in more detail.

 

Maths: This week we will be learning about statistic and data. We will be interpreting data from graphs and tables.

 

PBL: This week we will be creating Plague Doctor art using zentangle patterns and silhouettes.

We are looking for mystery readers to come in to class and read to the children. If you would like to volunteer for this, please let your child's teacher know.

 

Week Beginning 5.11.18

 

Literacy: This week we will be continuing to learn our new text 'The Caravan'. We will focusing on reading as a reader and a writer through activities such as hot seating and comprehension based on our text.

 

Reading: This week we will be starting our book for the half term 'The Curse of Castle Cranston'. We will be making predictions about the book and exploring new language. 

 

Maths: This week we will be using rounding to estimate answers and we will also be solving multi-step word problems.

 

This week is Science week! Each afternoon, we will be carrying out different investigations on reversible and irreversible changes. 

 

Reminders

We are still after old socks, plastic bottles and jars for Science week, next week. Please send your child in with these if possible!

Week Beginning 29.10.18

 

Literacy: The week after half term, we will be starting to learn our new text 'The Caravan'. We will have our 'hook' to introduce the text and also be deconstructing it throughout the week.

 

Reading: The week after half term, we will be looking at a non-fiction book 'The Measly Middle Ages', as an introduction to our topic.

 

Maths: The week after half term, we will be learning about addition & subtraction and different methods to solve problems.

 

Project: The week after half term, we will be starting our new topic Peasants, Princes and Pestilence. We will be looking at The Black Death and how it spread.

 

Reminders

We are still after old socks, plastic bottles and jars for Science week, next week. Please send your child in with these if possible!

Week Beginning 15.10.18

 

Literacy: This week we will continuing to research British cities and landmarks. We will also be creating our own leaflets based on this research.

 

Reading: This week we will be finishing our book 'Matilda' and making predictions about the characters in the future.

 

Maths: This week we will be learning about decimals and converting fractions into decimals.

 

Project: This week we will be preparing for our Great British Tea Party. We will make our food and decorations.

 

Juniors - Book Bingo Reading Challenge

  1. Your child will receive a bingo card in their Reading Record book
  2. They will need to read a book relating to each box on the card - please sign it each time they complete a book
  3. When the card has been completed they will receive a golden ticket and can collect a new bingo card
  4. The golden tickets will be placed into a box ready for the prize draw at the end of the school year.
  5. The winning 2 children from each year group, will be taken as a group to a matinee performance of the musical Matilda!

Literacy: This week we will be starting to learn about the layout of leaflets and different skills we need to write them. These will include: brackets, dashes and commas for extra information and bullet points.

 

Reading: This week we will be exploring powerful language the author has used in the book.

 

Maths: This week we will be continuing to look at fractions. We will be sequencing and comparing the size of fractions.

 

Project: This week we will be creating a quiz about Great Britain using Scratch and creating a Tudor family tree.

 

 

Week Beginning 1.10.18

 

Literacy: This week we will revising grammar skills and then we will writing our final piece based on our model text.

 

Reading: This week we will be investigating characters and answering comprehension questions based on story.

 

Maths: This week we will be learning about fractions and fractions of amounts.

 

Project: This week we will be continuing to look at Kings and Queens in Britain.

 

Notes: Please could you bring in any spare plastic 1 Litre bottles, old socks and spare net curtains as year 5 will be looking at filtering in science.

Literacy: This week we will be starting our innovation week: where we will write our own stories based on the text.

 

Reading: This week we will be continuing to read our book Matilda and evaluating the authors choice of language.

 

Maths: This week we will be learning about Roman Numerals and how they relate to our number system.

 

Project: This week we will be finishing off looking at famous British artists and beginning to look at Kings and Queens in Britain.

 

Notes: Please could you bring in any spare plastic 1 Litre bottles, old socks and spare net curtains as year 5 will be looking at filtering in science.

Literacy: This week we will be delving further into our text, My Name is Bob. We will be looking at vocabulary and giving our opinions of the text. 

 

Reading: This week we will be analysing characters and exploring new vocabulary from our story Matilda.

 

Maths: This week we will be learning about negative numbers and counting through zero to solve problems.

 

Project: This week we will be investigating famous British artists, including the work of William Morris.

 

Reminders:

PE will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays, please make sure your child has their full kit.

We will be doing Woodlands on a Tuesday, please make sure your child has wellies at all times.

Literacy: This week we will be starting our new text My Name is Bob. We will be learning the text and starting to understand the story in more detail through drama activities.

 

Reading: This week we will be starting our new book Matilda. We will be making predictions and answering comprehension questions based on the book. 

 

Maths: This week we will be learning about place value and comparing numbers by size.

 

Project: This week we will be starting our new topic What Makes Britain Great. We will be learning about significant Britons.
