Design Technology learning at Earlswood is about providing opportunities for children to be creative, use their imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems, considering their own and the needs of others. Making mistakes, and solving them, is a huge part of DT and integral to learning.
Children are encouraged to develop skills alongside the design process and these include those related to: woodwork, moving mechanisms, fabric and sewing as well as food technology.
Being a 'Healthy School’, we at Earlswood are privileged to be able to offer our children a dedicated cookery room, which children have access to all year round. This is a key part of our DT curriculum, where children from Nursery to Year 6 are taught a range of skills to enable them to prepare nutritious meals using ingredients often grown in our school grounds. Having our own hens on site is another example of our key aims at Earlswood – to provide our children with a real experience of sourcing food from its origin to their plates!
