Year 4 Science Visitor – 3rd and 4th November

On the 3rd and 4th November, Year 4 will be taking part in a LEGO WeDo workshop run by SATRO. This exciting opportunity will allow the children to build a LEGO model including gears, levers, sensors and a motor. Additionally they will be developing their computing skills, such as troubleshooting, programming, debugging and problem solving. All sessions will be COVID safe and the visitor will be wearing a visor.

Egyptian Day - Wednesday 14th October

This half term Year 4 have been learning all about the Ancient Egyptians. To round up our topic and celebrate our learning we are going to have an Egyptian Day on Wednesday 14th October. We will be doing a range of exciting activities but would also really like it if the children could dress up as Ancient Egyptians for the day. Please don’t feel you have to buy a costume, it could be as simple as a long white t-shirt with a belt or wrapping them up in toilet paper to turn them into a mummy!

Sculpture Week

At the end of this half term we will be having our sculpture week. We are hoping you might be able to help with some resources! If you have any old duvets, duvet cases, pillows or pillow cases or any cardboard sheets or boxes that you would be willing to donate please could you give them to your child's class teachers by Wednesday 14th October.

Earlswood Junior School Book Bingo Challenge

We are very excited that our Book Bingo challenge is now up and running.

Our Book Bingo challenge is designed to encourage a love of reading and to widen the range of books your child reads.

This is what you need to know:

  1. Your child will have a Book Bingo card in their reading record book and should be aiming to read everything on their challenge card.
  2. Someone at home will need to sign each box as they read the books. (They need to read a different book for each box).
  3. They do not have to read every word themselves. You may read it together, or if a book is too challenging read it to them, or use an audio book.
  4. When they have achieved 4 in a row they will receive a raffle ticket in class.
  5. When they complete a whole challenge card they will receive a golden ticket which will be entered into a raffle. The winners will be drawn in the summer term. Previous prizes have been kindles, a trip to a musical and book tokens.
  6. In class we will celebrate children who receive golden tickets. The children can check which class has the most tickets by looking at the hall display.

If you have difficulties finding the correct books please talk to your child’s class teacher who will be happy to help. Happy reading!

Reading Books

Please could we ask that you check at home if you have any school reading books that may have been taken home before lockdown. If you do find any please give them to your child’s class teacher and let them know they are from the previous year. Thank you in advance!

PE and Woodlands

In Year 4 our PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so the children will need their PE kits in school on those days.

All classes will be going to the Woodlands on Thursdays, so they will need their wellies and waterproof clothing in school every Thursday.

PE kits and wellies may be left at school long term if you would prefer, however they must have them on the days stated.
