Football & Netball Trials

Y6 football and netball trials will take place thisweek. Football trials will take place at lunchtime on Monday (12th) and the netball trials will take place at lunchtime on Wednesday (14th).

Children should ensure they have kit for the trials they wish to attend. Both boys and girls may attend the trials for either sport.

This year, Luke Taylor from Skills School will be running the football and netball teams for us. He will select children from the trials to be part of the school squads from which teams to compete in inter-school competitions will be chosen.

Currently, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the member schools of the Reigate and Redhill Schools Sports Partnership are not planning to schedule any sports events or team competitions until the spring term and then, only if it is safe to do so.

Spellings

Weekly spelling tests will now be set on Purple Mash. If your child has forgotten their log in please contact your class teacher. If you are unable to access Purple Mash, you can find the weekly spelling lists under the Year 6 Homework page.

Earlswood Junior School Book Bingo Challenge

We are very excited that our Book Bingo challenge is now up and running.

Our Book Bingo challenge is designed to encourage a love of reading and to widen the range of books your child reads.

This is what you need to know:

1. Your child will have a Book Bingo card in their reading record book and should be aiming to read everything on their challenge card.

2. Someone at home will need to sign each box as they read the books. (They need to read a different book for each box).

3. They do not have to read every word themselves. You may read it together, or if a book is too challenging read it to them, or use an audio book.

4. When they have achieved 4 in a row they will receive a raffle ticket in class.

5. When they complete a whole challenge card they will receive a golden ticket which will be entered into a raffle. The winners will be drawn in the summer term. Previous prizes have been kindles, a trip to a musical and book tokens.

6. In class we will celebrate children who receive golden tickets. The children can check which class has the most tickets by looking at the hall display.

If you have difficulties finding the correct books please talk to your child’s class teacher who will be happy to help.

Happy reading!
