This Week's Learning

This week in the Nursery

Friday 16th July

This week…

This week we have enjoyed reading a range of stories all sharing the theme of 'starting school'

We have started our Enterprise week and the Chicks have made some fantastic healthy ice cream/frozen yogurt. We had such fun thinking about the different flavours we would like and what ingredients we would need.

We have also been looking at measuring; comparing the height we were when we started in September to now.

Week beginning 19th July

This week the Ducklings and Goslings will be making their Healthy Ice Cream.

Please note, you can purchase an Ice Cream online using your Scopay account, the deadline for this is the 18th of July. We will be handing out our Ice Cream on the last day of term, you will be able to enjoy you healthy homemade Ice Cream on the way home from School.

We will be continuing with preparing our children for their transition into Reception with reading stories such as ‘The Colour Monster goes to School’ by Anna Llenas and ‘I am too absolutely small for school’ by Lauren Childs. These books can also be found online for you to share with your children at home.

We have moved on from Phase 1 Phonics and will be introducing the Phase 2 initial sounds as we get closer to the end of the year.

Below is a link to a you tube video explaining how to say the sounds correctly. There are a few that sound different from when we learnt to read, such as ‘m’ and ‘n’ and ‘l’.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ksblMiliA8

For those children who are just joining us we have started Phase 1 and will be concentrating on general sound discrimination to begin with. Phase 1 has 7 different aspects and is an important part of phonics with skills that need to be mastered before they move on to learning the initial sounds. One of the lovely things we have in our Nursery are the children’s personal photo albums. Do email any photographs of any activities or special memories so we can print them off and add them to their albums. These are kept in our quiet area and provide a lovely opportunity for the children to share with a grown up or a friend. A lovely talking point.

Message about Home Learning - 4th January 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

During this period of home learning, your child’s work will be set via Google Classrooms. You can access their account by going to www.login.earlswood.school. This website contains user guides for setting up accounts on different devices and also has a link to your child's login details if you have lost them.

For parents using a personal chrome book (not ones provided by the school), set up is slightly different to other devices and must be done at a specific time because the system has to be disabled. Please activate your child’s account on Monday (4th January) between 12.00-12.30pm or 5.00-5.30pm. During these time periods, Google Classroom may not be accessible on other devices. If you have any problems accessing your child’s account, please email your child’s class teacher.
