This Week's Learning

Week Beginning 18.10.21

 

Maths: This week we will be learning about efficient methods for subtraction and estimating answers.

 

Writing: This week the children will be writing their own instructions, including imperative verbs, rhetorical questions and sentence signposts.

 

Reading: This week we will be finishing reading 'The Smiling Stones', focussing on summarising the text.

 

Topic: This week we will be using our knowledge about electricity to make a reading light.

 

PSHE:  This week we will be thinking about how we can work together as a school community.

Week Beginning 11.10.21

 

Maths: This week we will be learning about subtracting three and four digit numbers with exchanges.

 

Writing: This week we will be learning about the features of Instruction writing, including imperative verbs, rhetorical questions and sentence signposts.

 

Reading: This week we will be continuing to read 'The Smiling Stones', focussing on making comparisons within the text.

 

Topic: This week we will be learning about electricity, including building simple circuits and identifying conductors and insulators.

 

PSHE:  This week we will be thinking about how we can work together to look after the environment.

Week Beginning 4.10.21

 

Maths: This week we will be learning about adding three and four digit numbers with exchanges.

 

Writing: This week we will be learning our new text 'How to Build a Pyramid'

 

Reading: This week we will be continuing to read 'The Smiling Stones', focussing on using the text to justify answers.

 

Topic: This week we will be looking at Egyptian pyramids and having our Egyptian Day!

 

PSHE:  This week we will be thinking about how we can work together to look after the environment.

Week Beginning 27.9.21

 

Maths: This week we will be learning about negative numbers and roman numerals.

 

Writing: This week we will be planning and writing a meeting tale, focussing on the use and punctuation of dialogue.

 

Reading: This week we will be starting our new text 'The Smiling Stones', focussing on predicting what might happen from details stated or implied.

 

Topic: This week we will be continuing to look at Egyptian Gods and Goddesses.

 

PSHE:  This week we will be thinking about how rewards and consequences motivate people's behaviour.

Maths: This week we will be learning about comparing and ordering numbers to 1000.

 

Writing: This week we will be planning and writing a meeting tale, focussing on the use and punctuation of dialogue.

 

Reading: This week we will be continuing 'A Guide to Ancient Egypt', focussing on identifying and explaining how information is related.

 

Topic: This week we will be looking at Mummification and Egyptian Gods and Goddesses.

 

PSHE:  This week we will be thinking about how democracy works in a school and the contributions we make to the school and the world around us.

Writing: This week we will be learning more about the features of a meeting tale, focussing on the use and punctuation of dialogue.

 

Reading: This week we will be continuing 'A Guide to Ancient Egypt', focussing on giving the meaning of words within a context.

 

Topic: This week we will be looking at Egyptian pyramids and Obelisks.

 

PSHE:  This week we will be thinking about our school community, who is in it, the roles they play and how we all fit into it.

Maths: This week we will be doing some place value work, including using number lines and representing numbers in different ways.

 

Writing: This week we will be learning our text 'An Adventure in Egypt' and learning about the features of a meeting tale.

 

Reading: This week we will be starting our text 'A Guide to Ancient Egypt'.

 

Topic: This week we will be looking at where Egypt is, some key events from the Ancient Egyptian period and how the River Nile was used.

 

PSHE:  This week we will be thinking about how attitudes and actions make a difference to being part of a class team.

Week Beginning 2.9.21

 

Welcome to Year 4! We are so excited to meet you all and to start the new school year with you. Below are some of the things we will be doing on our first two days back.

 

Maths: This week we will be doing some place value work, and thinking about number properties.

 

Writing: This week you will be writing about yourselves, focussing on sentences structure.

 

Reading: This week we will be reading a range of short texts and answering some questions.

 

Topic: This week we will be starting our topic with an introduction to Ancient Egypt!

 

PSHE:  This week we will be thinking about the challenges of starting a new school year and discussing ways to overcome them.
