SMSC and British Values

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education (SMSC) and British Values (BV)

SMSC and BV are threads that run through the ethos and day to day running of Earlswood and are reflected through our SMILE expectations and Learning Behaviours. SMSC and BV development opportunities are mapped throughout the Jigsaw scheme of work. All of these pieces of learning are brought together to form a cohesive picture, helping children to know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people in the world. Teachers are proactive about the teaching of SMSC and BV through all subjects and plan opportunities throughout their curriculum.

Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural Development - SMSC

SMSC is a thread that runs through the ethos and day to day running of Earlswood and is reflected through our SMILE expectations:

S - self regulation

M - manners

I - independence

L - listen and respect

E - encourage others

We follow the Jigsaw PSHE Scheme of work which brings together Personal, Social, Health and Emotional education, emotional literacy, socials skills and spiritual development. SMSC development opportunities are mapped throughout the scheme of work. All of these pieces of learning are brought together to form a cohesive picture, helping children to know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people in the world.
