We are close to the end of The Explorer by Katherine Rundell. We have enjoyed reading it. Maybe you would like to read some of her other novels.

Our topic this half term is Healthy Me and today we will review our understanding of how we can be healthy.

GEOGRAPHY

We will complete our Geography topic by looking at climate and physical and human features in South America.

SCIENCE

We will review and assess our understanding of forces.

RE

To complete this unit we will show our own ideas about salvation and what it means.

We will be working with perimeter of rectilinear shapes and perimeter of polygons. We will find the area of rectangles and the area of compound shapes.

ENGLISH

We will continue our unit of work about comparing  woodlands and rainforests. We will work on gathering a word bank of technical vocabulary to use in our comparison pieces. We will be working on the use of hyphens for ambiguity.

We will continue our whole class book The Explorer by Katherine Rundell and will develop our skills of inference and prediction.

PSHE

Our topic this half term is Healthy Me and we are learning about our relationship with food.

COOKING

We will be making Spicy smoked Jollof rice and plantain.

GEOGRAPHY

We will be finding out about the South American climate.

We will be investigating water resistance and reviewing the results.

We will begin to look at a wishing tale, focusing on the opening and ending. We will be using adverbs of frequency, contrasting conjunctions and use powerful verbs to create a mood.

READING

We will continue our whole class book The Explorer by Katherine Rundell and will develop our skills of prediction and summarising.

We will make a comparison between the Amazon and a forest in the United Kingdom.

We will be multiplying by a non-unit fraction by an integer, x mixed number fraction by an integer and calculating a fraction of a quantity.

ENGLISH

We will write short for and against argument paragraphs. We will look closely at our model text and the type of language used by the author. We will begin to plan and write a discussion piece of writing.

We will explore materials and there response to magnets. We will use magnets to separate materials.

We are exploring what helps a Muslim live a good life? Our key question will be 

How might the belief in the two angels who record a person’s good and bad deeds affect how many Muslims lead their lives?

PE

We will be working to work on our football skills and play small team games.

Week Beginning 11th September 2023

Welcome to Year 5. We've had a wonderful start to year 5 and have enjoyed getting to know each other in our groups.

Maths

We are going to be working on place value with numbers to 10000, numbers to 100000, numbers to 1000000 and read and write numbers to 1000000.

English

This week we are  beginning to learn our new persuasive text and will be looking at letters and writing some letters.

Reading

We will continue to read our new text The Wolves of Willoughby Chase and using skills of retrieval and how the author creates impressions for the reader.

COMPUTING

We will be learning about Internet safety.

SCIENCE

We are learning about the properties of materials and comparing their uses.

ART

We are going to learn about the artist William Morris and begin to look at his work.

PSHE

We are focusing upon the theme of Being in my world.

Music

We will be introduced to the Ukulele and how to hold it. We will be reading chords

reading tablature and will play in ensemble.

PE

We will be working on the football skill of turning the ball.
