This week in the Nursery

Friday 15th September

This week…

This week we have had a lovely time getting to know you all, as you have had your settling sessions with us. The Children have all done so well. We have been so impressed with how well they have settled already. It has been lovely seeing them making friends and being so engaged in the activities.

Next week we will be continuing with our settling sessions and enjoying making new friends. We will be reading lots of books together including 'All Are Welcome' by Alexandra Penfold. If you would like to share this book at home here is a reading of the book online. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vc8IEcr1Uwc

We are working on being kind friends and exploring our new environment. We have Kind Hands, Kind Feet, and Kind words in Nursery and if someone is doing something we don't like we put up our hand and say 'Stop, that please'. These are all important words we use in our setting. It can be useful to use these words are home with the children.

A few Reminders

Please can all items that come into Nursery be clearly named, the children find it hard to find their items themselves, so it is helpful if we can see their names. We ask that Lunchboxes are clearly named on the outside as the staff give out their lunchboxes and it takes time to open up each lunch bag to see the names inside.

We also ask that hoop earrings are replaced with studs as this prevents and earrings being pulled and hurting the child.

Please can we ask that water bottles are filled with water only.

If you have any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to talk to us on the door/gate, or alternatively get in touch via the school office email address.

Sarah, Charmaine, Nicola and Hayley.

PARENT CHRISTMAS PRESENTS

Friends of Earlswood organise an annual shopping event for the children where they have the opportunity, during school time, to purchase and wrap one present (per child) from a selection of gifts. Own clothes day To fund the pre-purchase of the presents, children are invited to wear ‘bright, colourful and sparkly’ clothes, in exchange for a suggested donation of £1.

The donation can be made via this link Parent presents 2022 . As with all our events we rely on the generosity of the parents! Friends of Earlswood will use the donations to purchase presents prior to the event and make up gift sets for the children to choose from. This proved to be really popular with the children and parents last year.

The own clothes days will be on - Nursery – Wednesday 2nd November

Shopping and present wrapping

If your child wishes to take part in the parent present shopping and wrapping at the beginning of December, then you will need to pay £2.50 at our online shop Parent Presents 2022 by Sunday 4th December. The online payment will be available from Friday 21st October.

Friday 16th September

This week…

This week we have enjoyed welcoming you into the Nursery for your settling sessions. With the Goslings doing all week in the mornings and the Ducklings and Chicks having their half day sessions in the afternoons.

We have enjoyed exploring the activities with you and getting to know you all.

If you have any questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via email. s.j.skitt@earlswood.surrey.sch.uk

Week beginning 6th September

We will be continuing with getting to know the Nursery routine and rules. We use the following phrases with our Nursery children, you may find they come home and share these with you.

In Nursery we have ‘Kind Hands, kind feet and use kind words’ when someone is upsetting us or doing something we don’t like we say ‘Stop that please’ and find a grownup to ask for help.

We also use the Phrase ‘Stop that Please’ when the children are doing something they should not be.

We don’t have tidy up time in the Nursery, we ‘put things back where they belong’ this gives the children a sense of looking after their learning environment and helps them to learn where things go and how to look after our resources.

 A few messages…

Please remember to name all items that your children bring into school. This helps us to identify what items belong to which child.

The children are likely to have fun in the mud kitchen, water tray, painting station and may on occasion not get to the toilet on time. Please send in lots of changes of clothes so we can change them.

The children need a coat every session no matter the weather, please send one in with your child everyday.

We ask that no juice is sent into school, please only fill your child’s water bottle with water. You don’t need to send in extra drinks in their lunchboxes as they have their water bottles.

The Nursery children need to be wearing joggers or leggings, not school trousers. This allows them to gain confidence with using the toilets independently.

Sarah, Charmaine, Claire and Nicola

We are concentrating on being independent in Nursery- it is a big part of our learning. Please let your children come in to Nursery at the start of each morning wearing their own coats and carrying their own bag and bottle. We encourage them to take them own coats off once inside the conservatory, there will be an adult to assist them if needed.

Please remember that toys need to stay at home. We do understand that some children still need comfort items and we do understand this but we have had an increasing amount of items coming into school and getting lost. Please note, some children are wearing watches- the children often remove these and play with them and they get broken or lost. Please keep these safe at home.

Please cut all the grapes you send in lunchboxes. We prefer the children not to have whole grapes.

A few messages…

There has been some confusion with information sent out last term, please check the Nursery page for all the up to date information. There is a section called ‘Key ‘information and letters’ please refer to this if you are unsure about anything.

If there is anything you wish to discuss about Nursery please do so with a member of the Team, who will more than happy to help.

Please remember to name any new items your child may bring in to Nursery, we have had a few new water bottles, new lunchboxes and new shoes and this can be hard for the children to recognise and for us too if they are unnamed.

Please cut all the grapes you send in lunchboxes. We prefer the children not to have whole grapes.

This week in the Nursery

Friday 24th September

This week…

This week we have finished our settling sessions for all the children. We have been so proud of them, they have done so well. Well done to all our Ducklings, Goslings and Chicks.

We have created a ‘Day in the Life of Earlswood Nursery’ photo album on the School Photo album page. Click on the link below to take a look at everything we have been doing during our settling sessions.

https://www.earlswood.surrey.sch.uk/nursery-15/

We have been reading the story ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell. We have loved talking about how our grownups come back for us at the end of the day.

We have been learning about our Nursery rules, having kind hands, kind feet, kind words and remembering, if we don’t like something someone else is doing we say ‘Stop that please’ and find a grownup. We have also been remembering to ‘put things back where they belong’ at the end of the session. We are getting very good at this already!

Week beginning 28th September

Our theme this half term is ‘Being me’. We will continue to think about our families and how important the special people in our lives are to us.

The story we will be looking at is ‘Hug’ by Jez Ahlborough. Here is the link if you’d like to share it at home too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7px9IcdxKs

Our song this week is ‘The Washing Hands’ song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJhWl1LLz5Q

We will also continue to use our nursery rhymes bag, which include songs, such as ‘five little ducks’ ,‘1,2,3,4,5, once I got a fish alive’, ‘Humpty dumpty’ and ‘Incy Wincey’.

We often enjoying singing and signing with the ladies from ‘Singing Hands’. These can also be found on Youtube if you pop ‘Singing Hands’ in the search bar they should come up.

A few messages…

The 'What to expect' and the 'Phonics' Reception workshops will be made available on the website for you all once they have taken place. There are currently two videos for perspective Reception parents on the Earlswood in Action Page. https://earlswood.primarysite.media/

Please note if you know your child is going to be absent for a holiday/day off you need to fill in an absence request form, we have copies of this in the Nursery. If anyone needs one just ask. If your child is ill however, please ring the school office to let them know.

Please do come and talk directly to us if you are worried about how much your child is eating at lunchtime. Please be don’t worry, we do help your children at lunchtime to eat and encourage those who struggle.

Parent consultations are in the diary for November, at this stage they are still down as 'Virtual'. The School Calendar can be found here under the parents section on the website. https://www.earlswood.surrey.sch.uk/diary/grid/2021/09/

Tapestry has not been set up yet. Once this has been sorted you will each receive an email with the instructions. We are enjoying the fact that the new EYFS Curriculum promotes us spending more time interacting with the children and less time recording, so Tapestry will be ‘wow’ moments. We will also be updating the Nursery Photo Album page on the School Website throughout the year (see link above for our latest photo album).

The health team at school only administers the Nasal Flu Spray for children aged Reception to Yr6. Please enquire with your GP Surgery for the Nursery Children if you would like this for your child.

We still have items coming in which are not named, especially water bottles. Please do name the items. We are happy to pop names in items with a Sharpie if you ask us to.

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask one of us,

Friends of Earlswood Invite to a Coffee Morning

This week in the Nursery

Friday 17th September

This week…

We have made new friends, learnt new songs, and a new routine. You have all been such stars coming in for the first time without your grown-ups. Well done Goslings and Chicks.

We are looking forward to having the Ducklings join us on Monday.

Week beginning 20th September

This half term we will be focussing on the theme ‘Being Me’, where we will be exploring our new environment, sharing all about our families and making new friends.

Next week we will continue to learn all about our new routine and enjoy being with our new friends as we welcome the Ducklings to the Nursery.

The story we will be looking at this week is ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell.

We will be continuing to sing familiar nursery rhymes and number songs, such as ‘five little ducks’ and ‘1,2,3,4,5, once I got a fish alive’ as well as learning our ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’ songs.

A few messages…

Please remember to send the children in with water bottles, waterproof coat, bag with change of clothes and wellies.

Please make sure all items are clearly named when they come in to Nursery. It can get confusing when it’s time to give out the lunchboxes or the children are not sure which bottle belongs to them.

The Class Reps for the Nursery this year are Laura Chappell (Ducklings) and Katherine Walker (Chicks) They will be doing the Goslings together. We have been sending home a slip with their details on, if you didn’t receive a slip please do ask a member of staff.

Thank you for being so understanding whilst we welcome the children into Nursery, once the children are settled there will be no need for a queue and it will be a must faster process.

Please find above a poster for a Drama Group for Pre-School Children that is held in the Learning Hub next door. It has been highly recommended by a current Nursery parent.

Any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask one of us, send Sarah and email or chat with us on door/gate. We will do our best to help.
