Week Beginning  11.11.24


Maths: We are looking at: Adding and subtracting 10s and adding two 2-digit numbers. 

 

Writing: In Writing this week, we are continuing our cycle of 'The Bear and The Piano'. This cycle we are focusing on character description. This week we are looking at similes and adjectives to describe characters. We will then move on to orally retelling the story making changes with innovated ideas. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Colour'. This is going to be kick started by our theatre visit on Friday 8th November focused on The Gunpowder Plot. This will be further covered in our History learning this half term. We will also be focusing on expressing colour through art this half term.

  • We would appreciate it if you practised your child's nativity lines at home with them.

Maths: We are looing at subtracting across a 10 this week. We will be using a mix of practical resources and pictures to help us exchange. 

 

Writing: In Writing this week, we are introducing our next cycle looking at the text 'The Bear and The Piano'. We will be looking at using adverbs and show not tell to describe our character. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Colour'. This is going to be kick started by our theatre visit on Friday 8th November focused on The Gunpowder Plot. We will also be focusing on expressing colour through art this half term.

Week Beginning  21.10.24


Maths: We are looing at adding and subtracting across a 10 this week. We will first look at this practically exchanging ones for tens dienes and then will be applying this to written questions. 

 

Writing: In Writing this week, we are focusing on sentence composition. We will be looking at verbs, adjectives, determiners and a range of punctuation. Focusing on making sure our sentences are grammatically correct. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Material World' we will be looking at categorising materials and looking at their properties. It would be lovely if you also looked at materials in everyday life and have discussions around this at home.

Week Beginning  14.10.24

 

Maths: We will begin the week looking at number bonds to 100, which will help us with the subsequent learning of adding and subtracting 1s to make 10 and then to cross 10. 

 

Writing: In Writing this week, we are finishing our persuasion cycle. We will be putting all we have learnt so far into practice and the children will finish their week writing a persuasive letter from the perspective of one of our classroom objects.  

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Material World' we will be looking at categorising materials and looking at their properties. It would be lovely if you also looked at materials in everyday life and have discussions around this at home.  

 

In line with this, we will be continue to make bags for our Reading Teds. Please bring in feltthread or children's needles if you have any at home.

We have also started a tournament on TTRS that will last for a week until next Thursday. Please encourage the children to take part in this. 

 

Week Beginning  7.10.24

 

Maths: We will begin the week with a fluency lesson recapping recognising tens and ones, using dienes to aid this. We will then be moving onto beginning our Addition and Subtraction unit. We will begin this by looking at fact families and number bonds to 100. 

 

Writing: In Writing this week, we are continuing our persuasion cycle. We will be putting all we have learnt so far into our innovate writes this week. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Material World' we will be looking at categorising materials and looking at their properties. It would be lovely if you also looked at materials in everyday life and have discussions around this at home.  

 

In line with this, we will be beginning to make bags for our Reading Teds. Please bring in felt, thread or children's needles if you have any at home.

Maths: We will be continuing our topic of Place Value, thinking about comparing and ordering  numbers to 100 and explaining our reasoning using the below vocabulary.

We will then finish the week counting is 2s,5s, 10s and 3s. 

 

Writing: In Writing this week, we are beginning our persuasion cycle. Looking at rhetorical questions and adjectives to persuade, whilst learning our model text inspired by the day the crayons quit.

Maths: We will be continuing our topic of Place Value, focusing more on numbers to 100. Specifically, we will be looking at amounts, ordering and comparing these and estimating where they should be on a number line. 

 

Writing: In Writing this week, we will be finishing our unit looking at Setting descriptions. We will be writing a story using our own setting, including the toolkit. We will then be beginning our next cycle of persuasive writing with a hook. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Material World' we will be looking at categorising materials and looking at their properties. It would be lovely if you also looked at materials in everyday life and have discussions around this at home.

Writing: In Writing this week, we will be continuing our unit looking at Setting descriptions. We will be beginning our innovate segment of this cycle and the children will be writing about London. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Material World' we will be looking at categorising materials and looking at their properties. It would be lovely if you also looked at materials in everyday life and have discussions around this at home.
