Week Beginning 17th March 2025

 

Writing

We will be writing our own tale of fear using suspense in our stories. We will be publishing our stories ready to display. 

 

Reading

We will be continuing our class book 'Narnia- The Lion, The Witch and the wardrobe'. We will be answering matching questions and looking at vocabulary in the story. 

 

Maths

We will be learning about decimals. We will think abut tenths as decimals and fractions.

Timestables

We are currently learning the facts of the 8 timestable. Your child should now be fluent with the 7 timestable facts. 

 

Science

We will think about what we have learnt about classifying animals and food chains. We will complete a short quiz. 

 

Computing

We will be learning to animate. We will use 2animate on Purple mash to create a moving picture. 

 

Cooking

We will chop and roast some vegetables. 

 

PSHE

This half term we are thinking about being healthy. We will think about alcohol and how people might use it. 

 

RE

We are learning about Christianity. We will consider how Christians celebrate communion.

We will be innovating our model text. We will change the character and setting of our story. We will think about the fear that the character has. 

 

Reading

We will be continuing our class book 'Narnia- The Lion, The Witch and the wardrobe'. We will be summarising as well as answering retrieval and inference questions. 

 

Maths

We will be learning about fractions. We will add and subtract fractions. We will also subtract a fraction from a whole amount. We will be adding mixed number fractions.

This week is STEM week. We are completing lots of science activities based around classification of animals.

Thursday 3rd September is National Poetry Day. Children are invited to wear their own clothes to school and bring a poem to share. 

 

Science/DT

If you have any shoe boxes please send them in for our DT project. We are making electronic games. If you can provide an AA battery we would also be very grateful. Thank you.

Week Beginning 23rd September 2024

 

Writing

We are learning  a quest tale. We will innovate our model text and include speech in our paragraphs. We will then plan our own quest tale. 

 

Reading

We will read our class book- The Ancient Egyptian Sleepover. We will summarise and retrieve. 

 

Maths

We will recognise the place value of number to 10000. We will round numbers to the nearest 100, 100 and 10000

 

Science

We will learn that common appliances run on electricity. We will explore simple circuits. We will make simple electrical circuits and make switch.

 

History

We will collate everything we have learned into a fact file.  

 

Computing

We are learning about how to stay safe online. 

 

PSHE

We are learning about our rights and responsibilities. We are learning about democracy.

 

French

We are learning how to say numbers to 20

Thank you for purchasing our class book. It is great that each child can have their own copy to work from in our reading lessons. 

 

Our teaching assistants are a valuable resource and we appreciate their work with the children. We have 4 teaching assistants working in Year 4 and they all work across the 4 classes.

Welcome to Year 4!

 

We are really excited to be starting this new year with you. Please speak to your child's class teacher if you have any concerns and we will do our best to sort out anything that arises.

 

Each week we will update this page with the current learning to give you an overview of the week. You will also find any messages relating to events and opportunities that are up coming. 

 

Messages:

PE:

Year 4 PE days are Wednesday and Friday. Children come into school in their PE kit on PE days. 

 

Outdoor learning:

Provide wellington boots for when we go to the allotment and woodlands. These need to stay in school. It is really helpful if they have a raincoat too, in case of unexpected showers. 

 

Reading Records

Please encourage your child to read every day. This will have a massive impact on their progress. Please fill in their reading records daily and make sure they are in school.

 

Timestables

Practise timestables. You can use Timestable Rockstars for this. Children will have their login, in the reading record.
