Friday 2nd May - INSET DAY


Maths: We will be beginning our topic 'Fractions'. This week we will be looking at recognising a half, quarter and third and being able to find these in varying contexts. 

 

Writing: In Writing we will be beginning our unit of recount writing. This topic will build up to the children writing a recount of their trip to Brooklands. This week we will be looking at: writing an introduction using the 5 W's (when, who, why, where, what) and using the first person consistently throughout a piece of writing before moving onto internalising the text and recognising tools from our toolkit. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Aviation'. During this topic we will be focusing on the first flight and Amy Johnson our local significant person related to this. We will be kick starting this topic with our trip to Brooklands Museum (23rd April).

Welcome to our Summer Term

Maths: We will be beginning our topic 'Fractions'. In the first week of this learning we will be looking at introducing wholes and parts and thinking about equal and unequal parts.  

 

Writing: In Writing we will be beginning our unit of recount writing. This topic will build up to the children writing a recount of their trip to Brooklands. Our first week of learning will be focused on; writing in the past tense and changing verbs accordingly and adding conjunctions to add detail. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Aviation'. During this topic we will be focusing on the first flight and Amy Johnson our local significant person related to this. We will be kick starting this topic with our trip to Brooklands Museum (23rd April).

Maths: We will be continuing our topic of 'Measurement' this week. Lessons will be focused on: measuring in millilitres, measuring in litres before looking at questions focused on the both of these, using the four operations to answer them.

Writing: In Writing we will be continue our persuasive writing unit. Our model text will be 'Come to England'. This unit we will be using our learning of geographical features (human and physical) from our last two topics. This week we will be finishing off our innovation of this text before beginning our hot task. The children's hot task this cycle will be combining their learning of Australia and persuasion by focusing on encouraging readers to go to Australia.

Maths: We will be continuing our topic of 'Measurement' this week. Lessons will be focused on: measuring in grams, kilograms, using the four operations (add, subtract, times and divide) in the context of mass before moving onto comparing volume and capacity.

Writing: In Writing we will be continue our persuasive writing unit. Our model text will be 'Come to England'. This unit we will be using our learning of geographical features (human and physical) from our last two topics. This week we will be looking at:

- adjectives to entice our readers

- positive language and points to persuade

- modal verbs and rhetorical questions to talk directly to the reader 

- using conjunctions to extend our sentences 

We will end the week by beginning our innovation of the introduction.

Maths: We will be continuing our topic of 'Measurement' this week. The start of the week will be focused on concluding the length and height parts of this learning. Lessons will be focused on using our knowledge of length and height and the four operations to complete questions involving multiple steps. We will then begin our new section of 'Mass, Capacity and Temperature'. The first lesson of this will be comparing mass.  

 

Writing: In Writing we will be starting our persuasive writing unit. Our model text will be 'Come to England'. This unit we will be using our learning of geographical features (human and physical) from our last two topics In this first week of learning we will be looking at different persuasive texts and using adjectives to appeal readers.  

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Australia'. During this topic we will be looking at geographical features and comparing these to the UK.

Maths: We will be continuing our topic of 'Measurement'. This weeks learning will be focusing on; measuring in metres, comparing lengths and heights and then order lengths and heights. 

 

Writing: In Writing we will be concluding our 'defeat the monster' unit where we are focusing on creating suspense. This week, the children will be finishing innovating the model text and then will use all of their learning to write an independent defeat the monster tale of their own.

Maths: We will be continuing our topic of 'Multiplication and Division'. This weeks learning will be focusing on looking at the 10 and 5 times table interchangeably. We will then begin our measure topic at the end of the week, starting with learning about measuring in centimetres.

 

Writing: In Writing we will begin our 'defeat the monster' unit where we are focusing on creating suspense. This week, we will be looking at understanding the structure of this type of story and fitting our model text into each part of the box up. We will then begin innovating the story, where the children will be changing the main character.

Maths: We will be continuing our topic 'Money'. We will be rounding off this topic by finding change and answering two-step problems.

 

It would be greatly appreciated if this topic's learning could be reinforced at home, either by playing 'shops' or letting children pay, for small items, if you are paying in cash. This will help to consolidate their learning on denominations of coins and finding change.

Writing: In Writing this week, we are focusing on sentence composition. We will be looking at verbs, adjectives, determiners and a range of punctuation. Focusing on making sure our sentences are grammatically correct. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Material World' we will be looking at categorising materials and looking at their properties. It would be lovely if you also looked at materials in everyday life and have discussions around this at home.

Maths: We will begin the week looking at number bonds to 100, which will help us with the subsequent learning of adding and subtracting 1s to make 10 and then to cross 10. 

 

Writing: In Writing this week, we are finishing our persuasion cycle. We will be putting all we have learnt so far into practice and the children will finish their week writing a persuasive letter from the perspective of one of our classroom objects.  

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Material World' we will be looking at categorising materials and looking at their properties. It would be lovely if you also looked at materials in everyday life and have discussions around this at home.  

 

In line with this, we will be continue to make bags for our Reading Teds. Please bring in feltthread or children's needles if you have any at home.

Writing: In Writing this week, we are continuing our persuasion cycle. We will be putting all we have learnt so far into our innovate writes this week. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Material World' we will be looking at categorising materials and looking at their properties. It would be lovely if you also looked at materials in everyday life and have discussions around this at home.

Reading books are going home this week. Please read each night with your child and record this in their reading record.

  • On Thursdays we will be walking to the juniors to complete our music, PE and woodlands sessions. To aid carrying wellies up the road, please provide your child with a plastic bag.

Maths: We will be continuing our topic of Place Value, focusing more on numbers to 100. Specifically, we will be looking at amounts, ordering and comparing these and estimating where they should be on a number line. 

 

Writing: In Writing this week, we will be finishing our unit looking at Setting descriptions. We will be writing a story using our own setting, including the toolkit. We will then be beginning our next cycle of persuasive writing with a hook. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Material World' we will be looking at categorising materials and looking at their properties. It would be lovely if you also looked at materials in everyday life and have discussions around this at home.

Maths: We will be continuing our topic of Place Value, focusing more on numbers to 100. Specifically, we will be using flexible partitioning, writing numbers in expanded form and using tens and ones on a number line. 

 

Writing: In Writing this week, we will be continuing our unit looking at Setting descriptions. We will be beginning our innovate segment of this cycle and the children will be writing about London. 

 

Topic: Our topic this half term is 'Material World' we will be looking at categorising materials and looking at their properties. It would be lovely if you also looked at materials in everyday life and have discussions around this at home.

Maths: We will be continuing our topic of Place Value, looking at numbers to 100 focusing on recognising our tens and ones and partitioning these numbers using part whole models. 

       

 

 

Writing: In Writing this week, we will be continuing our unit looking at Setting descriptions. We are focusing on using adjectives and similes to help with describing Paris and other cities.

Writing: In Writing this week, we will be starting our unit looking at Setting descriptions. We will begin this with a hook lesson and then focus in on how we can use our senses to describe a setting.
