This week we are adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator, adding fractions within one and adding to mixed number fractions.
Writing
We will begin to research facts for a news report and will work on our note taking skills, develop power of three sentences, using speech to add a quote and to use the 5 W's to write an introduction.
Reading
We are continuing to read Viking Boy and will continue to unpick new vocabulary and explore the character's actions and feelings.

This week we are converting mixed numbers to improper fractions, ordering fractions less than one and comparing numbers more and less than one.

We will continue to explore the language used in our model text and will plan and write our own defeat the monster story.
Reading
We are continuing to read Viking Boy and are excited to meet Tony Bradman the author of Viking Boy. We are also going to read and perform a poem, focusing on our tone and volume.
PSHE
Our focus is celebrating differences and we will discuss racism.

We are going to explore what Vikings were really like and explain why they have such a bad reputation,
Science
We are going to find out about thermal insulators.
Art
We are going to make our Viking amulets replicating the design we created last week.

This week we recognising and finding equivalent fractions, converting improper fractions to mixed number fractions.
Writing
We will continue to explore the language used in our model text and will look at how the setting mirrors the feeling of the characters. We will then begin to plan and write our innovated version of the text. Can your child retell the story of Beowulf?
Reading
We are continuing to read Viking Boy and will look at the vocabulary used in the text, summarise events in the correct order and answer true or false questions about the text.
PSHE
It is anti-bullying week. Monday is odd socks day. We will complete an anti bullying activity during our PSHE lesson.

This week we are multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, 1000. We will find multiples of 10, 100 and 1000 and find fractions equivalent to a unit fraction.
Writing
We will introduce a Defeat the Monster text and begin to learn it. This week we will focus on unpicking the language used by the author and the tools used to create the story.
Reading
We are starting our new text 'Viking Boy' by Tony Bradman. Tony will be visiting us in school on the 20th November. Look out for the email with further details.
PSHE
We are talking about our differences and celebrating the fact that we are all different. We will begin by exploring different cultures.

Sculpture Week
We are going to explore the work of Dale Chihuly. Please remember to donate an empty 2 litre plastic bottle which we plan use in our sculptures.

This week we will finish the boy who swam with piranhas. We will complete a book review in order to share our likes, dislikes and opinions about the text.
PSHE
We are learning to understand how democracy and having a voice benefits the school community and know how to participate in this and working to find out why our school community benefits from a Learning Charter and can help others to follow it

Friday is our Anglo Saxon day. Please come dressed as an Anglo Saxon.

We are continuing to read The Boy Who Swam With Piranhas and will be continuing to explore the book by discussing the ideas and themes of the book. We will use inference skills to answer questions and will show our understanding by answering true or false questions.

We have had a wonderful start to the new school year in year and are now looking forward to our first week of learning.
Maths
This week we are working with numbers to 10000, 100000, 1,000,000, and powers of 10. We will be able to read and write these numbers.
Writing
Our focus this week is to learn a new model text for our fiction unit, write rule of three sentences which will describe actions in a setting, use personification, figurative language develop our sentences to create atmosphere in our fiction writing.
Reading
We are continuing to read our new book, The Boy Who Swam With Piranhas and will be working on our intonation and expression when reading aloud. We will demonstrate our understanding of the text by retrieving answers from the chapter we read. We are also looking at an extract from a different text.
PSHE
Our unit is Being in my world and this week we are looking forward to the year ahead.
