Writing:
This week the children will be writing their own journey tales whilst applying the action toolkit. They will be creating action by using personification, progressive 'ing' openers, short snappy sentences, rhetorical questions and show not tell.
Maths:
We will be continuing to focus on multiplication and division. We will be looking at the 3 times table, multiplying and dividing by 4 and multiplying by 8. It would be great if the children could practise their 3s, 4s and 8 times tables on Times Table Rockstar.
Reading:
This week we will continue reading our core text 'Oliver and the Seawigs'. We will be using our 'summary' and 'prediciton' skills when answering questions about the text.
Topic:
This week we will have a art focus. We will be using a printing skill called 'mono printing' to create a Christmas Card.

On Friday 5th December we are looking forward to our Christmas Making morning.
Please can you encourage your child to practise their line for our Christmas Assembly, once they are confident with the words they can practise projecting their voices. Thank you.

This week the children will be continuing to focus on the model text called 'The Journey'. We will looking at using short snappy sentences to create suspense and using show not tell to explain how a character is feeling or their reaction.
Maths:
We will be continuing to focus on multiplication and division. We will be looking at multiples of 5 and 10, sharing and grouping and finishing the week by multiplying and dividing by 3. It would be great if the children could practise their 2s, 5s, 10s and 3 times tables on Times Table Rockstar.

This week we will continue reading our core text 'Oliver and the Seawigs'. We will be using our 'vocabulary' and 'inference' skills when answering questions about the text.
Topic:
This week we will have a art focus. We will be spending time focusing on performance as we practise for our Christmas Assembly. We will also be putting our artistic skills to use when creating festive items during Christmas Making Morning.

Monday 24th November is an INSET day. School is closed for children. Parents evening is on Tuesday 25th and Thursday 26th November, we are looking forward to meeting with you and discussing your child's progress.
Writing:
This week the children will be learning a new model text called 'The Journey'. We will begin to learn the toolkit for a journey tale with an action focus. We will look at using 'ing' openers and personification this week.
Maths:
We will be starting our new unit focusing on multiplication and division. We will be looking at using arrays and multiples of 2.
Reading:
This week we will begin reading our core text 'Oliver and the Seawigs'. We will be using our 'retrieval' and 'prediction' skills when answering questions about the text.
Topic:
This week we will have a Geography focus. We will continue to look at the human and physical features of European countries. We will also be comparing Athens and Pompei by discussing the similarities and differences about them.

This week is 'Road Safety Week' if the children would like to submit a poster for the competition then please send it in this week and hand it to Mrs McErlane.
Writing:
This week the children will be continuing to focus on the explanation model text 'The Amazing World of Nutrition!'. We will be creating our explanation texts and applying the skills we have learnt.
Maths:
We will be consolidating our understanding of addition and subtraction by looking at inverse operations and making decisions about which method is needed. We will also be focusing on estimation.
Reading:
This week we will begin reading our core text 'Oliver and the Seawigs'. We will be using our 'inference' skills when answering questions about the text. We will also be looking at the different characters within the text and creating character fact files.
Topic:
This week we will be having a Geography focus. We will be learning about the climate and the human and physical features of different European countries. The countries we are focusing on are Greece and Italy.

On Monday we are having our 'Europe Day'. The children will learn about the continent Europe and look more closely and Greece and Italy. They will participate in dancing and theatre activities and also help to prepare a feast for the end of the day. Thank you for those of you that have already made contributions on scopay.
Writing:
This week the children will be continuing to focus on the explanation model text 'The Amazing World of Nutrition!'. We will be looking at using generalisers, writing in chronological order and using topic sentences to start paragraphs.
Maths:
We will be focusing on subtraction. We will be subtracting across a 100 using the column method. We will also be subtracting a 2 digit number from a 3 digit number.
Reading:
This week we will begin reading our core text 'Oliver and the Seawigs'. We will be using our 'prediction' and 'inference' skills when answering questions about the text.
Topic:
This week we will be having a Geography focus. We will be learning about Europe's geographical location and the countries within it.

We will be focusing on subtraction. We will be subtracting across and 10, subtracting across a hundred and subtracting 2 numbers using the column subtraction method.

Topic:
This week is 'Sculpture Week'. This week will be learning about the artist Barbra Hepworth and will be creating our own sculptures inspired by her artwork.

This week the children will be creating their own warning tales. They will be using a setting toolkit and using the skills we have learnt in this cycle to bring the setting to life.
Maths:
We will be consolidating our learning from this half term. We will be recapping column addition and focusing on carrying the tens and hundreds.
Reading:
This week we will finish reading our core text 'The Akimbo Adventures'. The children will be creating a book review and discussing their favourite parts of the text.
Topic:
We will be focusing on Science this week and planning and creating a report about the human body. We will bring together all our learning about nutrition, bones and muscles to create our reports.

Writing: This week the children will be creating their own warning tales by innovating a model text. They will be using a settings toolkit and will be applying the skills we have learnt in this cycle to their writing.
Maths: This week our focus will be addition and subtraction. We will adding and subtracting two numbers across a 10 and adding and subtracting two numbers across a hundred.

Reading: Our book this half term is 'The Akimbo Adventures'. We will be using our reading skills to answer comprehension this week by making predictions and inferring information within the text.
Topic: This week we will have a DT focus. We will be completing our wallets using the sewing techniques we learnt last week and we will finish by evaluating our work.

Feeling Good Week 6th-10 October
As part of our ongoing work to promote positive mental health, we are taking part in Feeling Good Week. Goslings, Ducklings and children in Year R-6 are invited to wear their own clothes on Monday 6th October to celebrate the start of this ‘feel good’ week. Goslings and Chicks are invited to wear their own clothes on Friday 10th October to celebrate World Mental Health Day.

We will begin to learn our new model text 'Darkwater Canal' and begin to learn the toolkit for writing a warning tale focusing on setting description.
Maths: We will be looking at counting up in 50s. We will then move on to addition and subtraction. We will be adding 1s and 10s.
